An interdepartmental heavy equipment training course was recently held on Kaw Nation grounds. Spearheaded by Human Resources Director, Joe Thompson in collaboration with certification instructor Eric Payne from Pioneer Technology Institute in Ponca City, Oklahoma, this training program aimed to equip Kaw Nation workers with the necessary skills to operate heavy equipment effectively. Employees form Land Management and Maintenance Departments engaged in hands-on training and theoretical sessions, gaining valuable insights and certifications regarding the operation of mini excavators, skid steers, backhoes, and tractors.

The coordination between Joe Thompson and Eric Payne ensured a comprehensive curriculum that covered not only the technical aspects of heavy equipment operation but also emphasized safety protocols and best practices. This approach aimed to empower the Kaw Nation workforce with a well-rounded skill set, preparing them for various tasks related to heavy equipment in their respective departments.
